Ductless mini-splits have become popular, especially for small-sized homes, because of their ease of installation and flexible operation. These systems are also relatively low-maintenance due to their compactness. However, these AC systems develop occasional problems like any other appliances. Fortunately, any competent AC repair technician can fix most of these problems. Here are common ductless AC problems and their solutions:

1. The Unit Doesn't Power On

Do you press the remote and nothing happens? Does your unit have a power indicator light on it, but it doesn't come on when you turn it on? The first thing to check is whether or not your unit has power. If there's no power going to your system, it could be the remote or the unit's power system.

An AC repair technician will perform different tests to diagnose power faults at both ends. Sometimes the solution is as simple as replacing the batteries, and sometimes it is complicated as overhauling the control panel.

2. There Is Ice on the Coils

When there is ice on a ductless mini-split system, you will see dripping water. It usually points to dirty coils or low refrigerant levels. The technician will check for refrigerant levels and top them up. They will also clean the coils to take away attachment points for ice.

3. The Remote Doesn't Work

One of the main conveniences of a mini-split system is an easy operation using a remote console. The remote rarely develops faults, but it can become faulty from moisture infiltration, dropping, or knocking.

If you have fresh batteries in the remote, but it still doesn't work, there may be a problem with the system's controller board. You need an AC repair technician to diagnose faults on the remote and the AC.

4. The AC Blows Hot Instead of Cold Air

Does the AC blow hot air even at the lowest settings? If so, there might be several problems, starting with the thermostat. You can turn it off and on again to fix it in most cases. If that doesn't work, you might have a bigger problem, of which various components are suspect. An AC repair technician will do comprehensive troubleshooting on outdoor and indoor units.

5. There Is a Nasty Smell Coming From the AC

Is your ductless mini-split starting to smell a little funny? The most common problem is mold infestation, which you will identify by a musty smell. A refrigerant leak comes off as a vinegar smell, while a power fault will smell like something burning. Call the AC technician when you smell something strange.

A ductless mini-split AC offers your family comfortable solutions and the advantages of ease of setup and flexibility in operation. Contact an AC repair service if you have questions about air conditioning repair
